Comair’s “Slow Lounges” Set The Standard At 2010 Loerie Awards

Johannesburg, 15 October 2010: The SLOW lounges, the new standard in airport lounges in South Africa, have received the highest accolades at the 2010 Loerie Awards, which recognises excellence in the design, advertising and communications industries.

The SLOW lounges’ tranquil and stylish environment was conceived by visionary local designers, Grid Worldwide Branding and Tonic Design. At the Loeries, they achieved a Grand Prix Award (the highest accolade) in the Communication Design Category, for the Design Mixed-Media Campaign for SLOW lounges. Further awards bestowed on the Grid and Tonic teams for their work on the lounges included:

  • Gold Medal: Communication Design: Three Dimensional & Environmental Design – Architecture & Interior Design (SLOW Lounge)
  • Silver Medal: Communication Design: Brand Identity & Collateral Design – Identity Programmes (SLOW Lounge – The lounge for extremely busy people)
  • Silver Medal: Communication Design: Brand Identity & Collateral Design – General Collateral (SLOW Coasters)
  • Bronze Medal: Communication Design: Brand Identity & Collateral Design – General Collateral (SLOW Calendar)

In fact we had an email from a customer who said the only problem with SLOW was that his flight left on time,” said Brauer.

The SLOW airport lounges, situated in the Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town domestic terminals, provide a perfect sanctuary from the fast pace of travel and modern life. Features include a chef, a coffee barista, winetasting from a monthly selection of the finest South African wines, a library, Apple iMacs, a Nintendo games room, private meeting spaces and business facilities. In addition, each SLOW Lounge also contains an on-site Spa offering massages and wellness treatments.

Access to the SLOW Lounges is exclusive to qualifying British Airways/ Comair customers, FNB platinum card holders, clients of RMB Private Bank and FNB Private Bank.

Comair plans to roll out further SLOW lounges, including one at the international terminal at Johannesburg International which opens next year.
