Johannesburg, 15 June 2011: Comair Limited, operator of British Airways in South Africa, has reduced the number flights between OR Tambo International and Dar es Salaam airport in Tanzania, effective 20 June 2011.
Originally offering five flights per week, the interim schedule will now allow for three flights to and from Dar es Salaam. Flights will now leave from Johannesburg on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, returning to Johannesburg on Thursday, Saturday and Monday.
On 2 August this year all British Airways flights on this route will be temporarily suspended pending the review of the new summer timetable that is to be introduced on 29 October 2011.
Stuart Cochrane, Comair’s Executive Manager for Network Development and Alliances, says Comair introduced the Johannesburg Dar es Salaam route in November last year in a bid to support Comair’s strategic growth into Africa and to provide enhanced access to and from South Africa for both business travellers and tourists travelling from Dar es Salaam.
Generally, the uptake on this particular route has been satisfactory,” Cochrane says. “However, as part of an annual scheduling revision process, Comair is currently investigating all existing routes in a bid to identify areas of improvement,” he says. “Where required, Comair is introducing measures to ensure enhanced operational efficiency by either increasing or reducing the number of flights, or deploying smaller aircraft to optimally service that particular market,” he says.
“We’re looking forward to reintroducing our superior service offering to this particular market towards the latter part of the year,” Cochrane concludes.
All customers affected by the changes in the schedule will be accommodated on an alternative British Airways flight, or will be offered a full refund should a suitable flight not be available.
