Johannesburg – 30 May 2007. British Airways and its franchise partner Comair Limited is a proud sponsor of the award-winning local production of the Broadway hit; the Lion King. And with today being the official opening, the show is already a box-office hit.
The production, which features an entirely South African cast, has been in rehearsal for six weeks and shows in the first few weeks of staging are already sold out.
The Lion King will only be staged at the new Teatro at Montecasino in Johannesburg. This venue was built especially for the production as there was previously no local theatre whose stage was big enough for the show’s elaborate props and mesmerising stage effects.
However, British Airways in conjunction with partners Southern Sun and Avis have put together affordable travel packages from all its local and regional destinations to Johannesburg to give as many people as possible the opportunity to watch this amazing show. Packages include great fly, drive and stay offers from only R1645 which are available from www.lionkingsa.co.za or 0861 54 64 54.
Concludes Stuart Cochrane, British Airways’ Executive Manager for Marketing and Communications, “History is being made through having the Lion King staged on African soil for the first time and what better way to bring the king home than on an airline that’s fit for a king?!”
